HAVS Risk Management

HAVS Health

The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) recommends regularly checking with employees and asking them questions to determine if they are developing any symptoms of Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome. These simple HSE questions will help you identify employees who are at risk and require further medical assessment by a doctor or qualified medical practitioner;

  • Have you had any tingling or numbness in your fingers after
    using vibrating equipment?
  • Have your fingers gone white on exposure to cold?
  • Are you having difficulty picking up small objects such as screws or nails?
  • Are you experiencing any problems with muscles or joints in your hands or arms?

If the answer to any of the above questions was YES, then immediate action is necessary to reduce the amount of vibration the individual is exposed to. Sending the individual for a medical assessment and changing working practices will help to avoid further injury.

Completing pre-employment questionnaires and sending applicants for medical screening is strongly recommended to highlight any potential inheritance of historical industrial injuries. read more....
