HAVS Risk Management

Executive Hire News 'Helping responsible hirers grasp HAV opportunities'

The Physical Agents Directive affects all tool and equipment hirers, manufacturers and users and its requirements must be met by July 2005. In readiness for its implementation EHN published a dedicated Supplement on HAV with the May 2005 issue. It examined the measures that manufacturers are taking to develop and test equipment, and our experts assessed the latest power tools, construction equipment, garden machinery and other hand-held items.

Alternative methods of reducing the HAV risk was evaluated, including protective clothing, and remotely controlled products, as well as operator training.

The Control of Vibration at Work Regulations have now come into effect. To help the industry, EHN is organising a one day Hand Arm Vibration Conference, entitled 'Helping responsible hirers grasp HAV opportunities', on Thursday 6 October. To be held at our country house offices in Corsham, in Wiltshire.

The conference will bring to life many of the issues discussed in our recently published HAV Supplement. Our aim is to increase the industry's understanding of the new Regulations, and to promote best practice based on common sense.
